Westas Group is a Scandinavian expert of value-driven and customized wood products. We buy roundwood from sustainably managed and widely certified forests in Western Finland. In our sawmills, we process and customize sawn timber and sawmill by-products to large and medium-sized customers locally and globally. With efficient and responsible actions we produce high-quality spruce and pine sawn timber for further processing to companies in over 30 countries.
Founded in 1875, the Pihlava sawmill has come a long way—from traditional sawmilling to today’s state-of-the-art wood processing. Westas Group’s wood procurement unit annually purchases around 1,3 million cubic metres of wood from certified Finnish forests. The raw material used by the Group’s sawmills is procured from Western Finland, where the Group is recognized as a reliable partner.

High-quality, cut to size timber is particularly suitable for visually and structurally demanding applications. Tailored dimensions make the use of raw materials more efficient, for example in construction and further processing of wood. Tailorability enables customer-spesific measurements for the thickness, width and length of the products.
Westas supplies the majority of all wood fuel to the local heating plants. During the heating season, fuel deliveries can rise to up to 800 truckloads per month. In Finland, more than 40% of the total energy consumption is produced with renewable energy sources. The most significant of these is wood-based energy, which accounts for more than 70%. The forest energy supplied by Westas is used to heat many homes and workplaces.
